I’m 33 years old, living in Germany from the beautiful state of Colorado. My husband is an Active Duty Army Officer and we move a lot. We call no place home and we consider ourselves citizens of the world. We don’t have any children, but we do have two insane dogs and a fat cat. I’ve been told they’re like children, but people I know who have children say dogs are harder! Haha!
I currently have a degree in History and Secondary Education and I hope to pursue either a 2nd bachelor’s degree in Nursing or possibly just go for the big guns and get my master’s in nursing and become a Nurse Practitioner. I haven’t quite decided, yet. The plan is to start back to school in the fall of 2009. Thankfully, I have the GI bill and so either way, I’m covered!
Last year, I worked as a volunteer for the Public Affairs office in Hanau and the experience that I got gave me a great foundation and more education than I would have got in school alone. I am also volunteering as an FRG leader for my husband’s unit. I love it! I’ve worked a lot of jobs in my short life, but my favorite jobs were always when I was a waitress. I miss doing it! I was also a middle school teacher in Denver for a couple of years, a Soldier stationed in Germany and deployed once to Iraq. I have worked as a full-charge bookkeeper, an escrow accountant and as a Civil Servant (Government employee).
I aspire to be a lot of things and sometimes I have my head in the clouds, but one thing is for sure…once I have set my mind to something, I rarely give up…even if I the road I’m traveling on seem too hard or painful. I complain a lot, but it’s mainly just to vent. I take things way too seriously sometimes, but I’m a pretty easy-going person though and I tend to fit in anywhere. I care about everything, almost to a fault. I worry about everything all the time and it’s a wonder I don’t have ulcers or something! Shy is not a word that people use to describe me…
A favorite place for me to meet new people is on-line…that’s how my hubby and I met. Actually, that’s how a lot of people in my family meet their spouses. I used to mock my old roommate for meeting his wife through AOL, but that’s just because online dating was such a new phenomenon at that time.
My hobbies include spending time with my husband and my animals, traveling, photography, writing and crocheting. Even though I like to be out and about, I consider myself a homebody and the couch is my favorite place in the house. I love to talk on the phone and watch my favorite TV shows.
My husband and I are big movie buffs. We usually watch at least one movie a day together and since I’m a housewife, I often find myself re-watching a lot of classics like Dumb and Dumber or Office Space! My favorite genres include comedy, romantic comedy, Walt Disney flicks, drama, tear-jerkers and cartoons. I don’t care for thrillers, but admittedly, I love movies about vampires and while it freaked me out a bit, I did enjoy watching “The Skeleton Key”. I also don’t like too many action movies, but I do find myself drawn to military-type movies like “A Bridge Too Far” and “Good Morning Vietnam”.
I like to read as well, but a little known fact: I usually only read while I’m in the bathtub or in bed. I enjoy most anything by Nicholas Sparks and Marian Keyes (and yes, I realize these authors are considered pop fiction, but I still love reading their novels). Generally, though, I seek out literature as opposed to pop-fiction. Growing up, my mother read Harlequin books and I DO NOT enjoy them. In the non-fiction genre, I prefer to read about history, but not biographies. My favorite historical periods include: US Turn of the Century (1900s), American Civil War and American Revolutionary War.
I like to play games, be it on the PS2, Wii, Nintendo DS, computer or Facebook. I’ve also managed to suck Rob into my habit on Facebook and frequently we play the same game at the same time, sometimes discussing the game while playing it…that’s not considered cheating, is it? Rob and I have almost become professional Guitar Hero players and we spend far too many Saturdays trying to master those songs.

hey amber, thanks
I was just thinking about Sims today! I have always wanted to play that game but never have!
Hey, yeah you’re right, it does sound like we have a lot in common. My husband used to be stationed in Germany when he was younger. He came back from Afghanistan right before I met him in 2005 and has now been in the National Guard for 17 years (he just got promoted to Master Sergeant). I too moved away from my native country and I’ve lived in and visited places all over the world for research, volunteering and just traveling. Personality traits and interests seem very familiar too. I just wish I were 33 again!!
Hola!
Thanks for your comment…good to have someone to relate to & who understands how much it sucks!
Tell me about Germany! My husband is considering putting in for there when he is done with this deployment.
Hi, I just found you through Lisa Mertins’s blog.
Sounds like we have a lot in common. I love animals (crazy about them) and like to write and take pictures.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the military and their families. My husband was a Green Beret before I met him and he is still involved in a ton of veteran activities. My brother was stationed in Germany years ago and I went to visit him–he was in Heidleberg.
I will bloglines you now…
I used to play Sims a lot right after Obi-Wan got commissioned. I was home all day while he was in school so I would easily kill a few hours playing Sims. I don’t have the time anymore but it’s a lot of fun. Thanks for the link love.
Very enjoyable read! U are growing up….I am growing older….I know I am really older when the younger generation says something like “Sims” and I say, “Who’s that, do I know them?” LOL
With all your determination, be an OBJECTIVE Jouralist, when you arrive, would you please?
Do you do “Mile-a-Minute” crochet yet? (It’s from “Annie’s Attic”). She has several crocheting styles that are fun. If interested, I could figure a way to scan some to you….??
Where are you?!?
I hope all is well in your corner of the world
I tagged ya for a meme
And I love your new layout!
